Vertical packaging equipment is generally divided into two main categories:

- For liquid and paste products
Vertical machines for powder and free-flowing products are designed to pack powders, granular and small-piece products into three-seam bags formed from heat-sealable films such as polyethylene, polypropylene, laminates, barrier materials and frost-resistant films.

Vertical machines can be equipped with different types of industrial dosing systems: flow weighers, linear or multihead combination weighers, volumetric cup fillers or auger fillers. Depending on the dosing system, the equipment is suitable for packing:
- Bulk products (cereals, pasta, coffee, tea, spices)
- Piece products (nuts, candies, cookies, bagels, dried fruit, pistachios)
